HANOI, VIETNAM

Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is known for its centuries-old architecture and a rich culture with Southeast Asian, Chinese and French influences. At its heart is the chaotic Old Quarter, where the narrow streets are roughly arranged by trade. There are many little temples, including Bach Ma, honoring a legendary horse. A famous market to visit is Dong Xuan, which sells household goods and street food. Ask for Weasle Coffee, unique to the city.

Hanoi is known for its water puppet shows at the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre. About 500 shows are performed a year to a total of 150,000 people as an ode to Vietnamese art. Also visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ngoc Son Temple, and the Vietnam Musuem of Ethnology. The latter shows the ethnic diversity in Vietnam. The art and artifacts inside represent the 54 different ethnic groups that inhabit the country.
